Principal's Message
Spruceland Community School of the Arts is centrally located in the Spruceland area of Prince George, which is the traditional and ancestral territory of the Lheidli T'enneh. With approximately 275 learners, Spruceland is a vibrant and inclusive multicultural public school wherein we want all students to find success, meaning, and joy in their learning. Notably, we are Prince George's first ever arts school! Our objective is to foster the growth of all students intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially by means of education through the arts. As of September 2024, we are entering in to our second year of this new arts programming.
There are three foundational pillars to our choice program at Spruceland Community School of the Arts:
- Our students spend time every week participating in Creative Movement, Drama, Visual Arts, and Music
- We regularly host Artists-in-residence (established artists) who offer arts instruction, skill development, and other creative opportunities
- We are moving towards full arts integration, whereby our learners will demonstrate their understanding and competencies in other subjects through the arts
In addition to the aforementioned, we also offer a robust literacy program, as well as many extra curricular opportunities through our Community Schools Coordinator and other devoted staff. Our school has a rich history of strong community engagement and participation; annually, our wonderful PAC and staff host many exciting family events.
As we continue to develop our new identity, we are proud of what we have accomplished thus far and are enthusiastic about continuing on this arts journey. Spruceland is a joyous and creative place to be!
